Individual Consultation

Counselling Centre provides Individual Consultation Services to the on-campus students. Here, a student gets personal, one to one space, where s/he can interact with a trained mental health professional to explore and address her/his personal or emotional concerns in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

It is a partnership where the counsellor deliberately establishes a professional relationship with the student and helps to explore her/his feelings, beliefs, behaviours. The student gradually gets endowed with the strength of dealing with academic stress, to work through challenging or influential memories. The counselling experience often helps the student to see things from different perspectives and equips with the skill of better understanding of her/himself and others.

Individual Counselling is very much effective for:

  • Developing confidence and life skills
  • Overcoming performance anxiety
  • Academic and other environmental stress
  • Time management
  • Addressing procrastination issues
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Relationship concerns
  • Adjustment issues
  • Persistent feelings of sadness or anger
  • Recovery from trauma or abuse

Students, who do not go through any of the above circumstances, but still feel the necessity of consulting a professional regarding other emotional difficulties, are also fit to seek the service.

Individual psychotherapy sessions typically last between 45 and 50 minutes. The frequency and duration of therapy will depend largely on the need of students, treatment goals, and progress. Many concerns are readily resolved with short-term therapy, and other chronic or more complex concerns require long-term commitment before improvement is realized.

In general, individual counselling services benefit the student by bringing her/him to better self-awareness and helping the student feel more connected to a fuller sense of self.
